Auchenlodment pupils tell PM all about it

Visiting schools to meet and chat with young people is always rewarding. I love to hear their opinions, ideas and how they view life here in Renfrewshire and Scotland as a country. I find it one of the most valuable and enjoyable aspects of my job so I was delighted to accept an invitation from P6 at Auchenlodment Primary School to visit. The boys and girls have been learning all about the “Send My Friend to School” campaign which is a global programme working to ensure quality education for all children. The hardworking pupils were clearly well informed and presented an incredible power point presentation along with a very imaginative flash dance to help raise awareness. They also had lots of ideas about how to tackle this issue if they were the leaders of the world. The pupils are keen to bring this campaign to the attention of the Prime Minister so I have written to him to highlight their hard work. About Hugh

Hugh Henry is a Scottish Labour politician first elected a Member of the Scottish Parliament in1999 when he represented Paisley South. He was appointed Deputy Minister for Health and Community in 2001and moved to Deputy Minister for Social Justice in 2002. He became Deputy Minister for Justice after the Scottish Parliamentary Elections in 2003 and Minister for Education in 2006. Hugh collected the Scottish Politician of the Year award in 2010 and won the newly created Renfrewshire South seat in 2011. He was raised in Erskine, Renfrewshire and educated at St Mirin's Academy, Paisley, at the University of Glasgow and Jordanhill College in Glasgow. He has worked as an accountant, a teacher and as a welfare rights officer. He was a local councillor from 1984 until 1999, including four years as leader of Renfrewshire Council. He is married with two daughters and a son.
