Refugees on way

I was pleased to hear council leader Mark Macmillan reveal that we will welcome no less than 50 refugees from war-torn Syria into our community giving them the chance of a new life and freedom from fear. It was also good to learn that political rivalries were put aside with every councillor welcoming the imminent arrival of the refugees. Officials are already putting in place plans to support those who should be coming here sometime in November safe in the knowledge they can stay for five years before applying for residency. It is heartening to know that we can offer shelter to at least some of those fleeing the conflict.
