Well done to Council Leader Jim
Fletcher, and his 7 council leader colleagues from the West of Scotland. The
bold and ground-breaking City Deal which they have delivered is brilliant news
for East Renfrewshire. Through their hard work they have persuaded the UK and
Scottish Governments to each contribute £500 million. This £1 billion boost for
the West of Scotland will make a real difference to the local area. Already a
£44 million programme has been approved which will see a new station in
Barrhead, a sliproad from the M77 and clear up work at the former Levern Works
site. There are also exciting plans for the Darnley Country Park. The new
centre which will open in 2017, will offer wakeboarding, something completely beyond
me, but which I’m told is the fastest growing sport in Scotland. I know money
is still hard to come by, but thanks to our forward thinking councillors, we
will see a real difference in the local community.
