Long before it got the profile it
deserved, Elaine Holmes and Olive McIlroy were trying to help women whose lives
have been devastated by complications after mesh surgery. I was proud to
support their efforts. It’s great news that at long last a dedicated helpline
has been set up for those suffering in silence. The Scottish Mesh Survivors
group, led by Elaine and Olive, has campaigned tirelessly to see better support
put in place for women in pain or disabled after mesh implant surgery. An
experienced physiotherapist will now be on hand to give advice to those
experiencing complications after the procedure. This is another small victory
on the way to ensuring support and justice for all the women affected,
including those in my own constituency. You can call the dedicated helpline on
07824 537 938 on Mondays between 4.30pm – 6.30pm and Thursdays between 9am and
11am. Well done to Elaine and Olive who are continuing to push the Scottish
Government on this important and devastating problem.
